Welcome to Florin Square
Where Culture Meets Business.
Located at 2251 Florin Road and 24th Street in South Sacramento, Florin Square is the cultural and economic epicenter of the region’s Black community. Widely recognized by locals as “Sacramento’s Black Wall Street,” we stand proudly as the largest collaboration of Black-owned businesses in Northern California. Defying typical retail trends with a stellar 97% occupancy rate, our bustling commerce center houses over 200 service providers, retailers, and dedicated nonprofits.
We are not just a shopping center; we are a living, breathing cooperative ecosystem. Our active spaces are proudly 95% Black-owned and 40% woman-owned. We operate on the foundational principles of economic solidarity and community wealth. By providing accessible entry points for startups and small businesses, we keep resources circulating directly within the neighborhoods we serve.
We are also the proud home of:
The Sojourner Truth African Heritage Museum, California’s capital museum dedicated exclusively to African American art and history.
The African Marketplace, a twice-monthly grassroots showcase of culture, food, and emerging local artisans.
The African Marketplace (officially rebranded as the Nubian Family Marketplace) is the premier twice-monthly cultural and economic gathering held inside Florin Square. Founded in 2015 by Brother Ra as a grassroots hub for circulating dollars directly within the Black community, it has grown from a local workshop into a massive showcase of culture and entrepreneurship. The market frequently serves as a direct business incubator, allowing local artisans and small business owners to test their products and gain a loyal customer base before transitioning into full-time storefronts.
The event takes place every first and third Saturday of the month from 12:00 PM to 6:00 PM. Attendees can browse through over 25 featured pop-up vendors alongside the square’s permanent retail establishments, offering authentic African and African American art, handmade jewelry, clothing, and custom health and wellness products. The family-friendly event is entirely free to enter and routinely pairs shopping with dynamic community entertainment, including live DJs, open mic cyphers at the Digital Cafe, local marching bands, and educational seminars.
We are committed to moving our community from survival to scalability. Our vision forward includes launching targeted micro-loan programs, expanding our small business incubation training, and scaling the footprint of the iconic Sojourner Truth African Heritage Museum. As we continue to bridge the racial wealth gap, our goal is to evolve Florin Square into a premier cultural tourism destination and a statewide blueprint for self-sustained minority wealth building.
