A Living Testament to Heritage and Unity.

Florin Square is the cultural and economic epicenter of South Sacramento’s Black community, widely recognized by locals as the region’s “Black Wall Street”. As the largest collaboration of Black-owned businesses in Northern California, this bustling marketplace and business incubator houses service providers, retailers, and nonprofits. It operates on the principles of Pan-Africanism and economic solidarity, striving to keep resources circulating directly within the community.

Cultural Empowerment

The complex serves as a vital cultural empowerment center anchored by institutions like the Sojourner Truth African Heritage Museum, which stands as the only museum in the state capital dedicated exclusively to African American history and art. Every first and third Saturday of the month, the square hosts the highly popular African Marketplace, lively grassroots gathering filled with traditional drumming, local food vendors, and small-scale African American artisans. From massive interior murals to community-led heritage festivals, Florin Square is a living testament to Black pride, resilience, and entrepreneurship in Sacramento.

The SoJourner Truth African Heritage Art Museum

Our mission is to open minds and change lives through the exploration and celebration of African American history, experiences and culture through art education and outreach.

Our vision is of a world in which the adversity and achievement of African American history inspire everyone toward a greater understanding of acceptance and unity!

A Canvas of the Community

Florin Square is known for its beautiful, massive interior and exterior installations. Partnering with local and national muralists, we turn our commercial spaces into dynamic storyboards reflecting the pride, resilience, and beauty of the South Sacramento community.

Intergenerational Connection

From our youth entrepreneur camps to our senior mentorship circles, we actively foster a village-like atmosphere. It is a place where elders pass down vital cultural knowledge and young people are empowered to see positive, representative images of business ownership and leadership.
